Ashish Dhawan co-founded ChrysCapital, a private equity firm, in 1999. Ashish is also the Founder and CEO of Central Square Foundation. He is an entrepreneur and a philanthropist, who guides the Foundation with his strategic vision, values and fresh approach to philanthropy. He joined Central Square full time starting July 2012, to pursue his goal of creating social impact via philanthropic investments in the K-12 education space. He is also a member of the HBS India Advisory Board.
Founder of ChrysCapital in 1999, Dhawan was the first to spot many investment opportunities early on in a sector’s growth. Previously Ashish has worked with leading investment institutions such as ChrysCapital, Goldman Sachs, GP Investments and MDC Partners. Better recognized as the poster boy of Indian Private Equity.
Development Sector Participation
Ashish serves on the board of several non-profits including Teach For India, Centre for Civil Society, Janaagraha and GiveLife.
He is an MBA with distinction from Harvard University and a dual bachelor’s (BS/BA) holder in applied mathematics and economics with Magna Cum Laude honours from Yale University.
Teaching is something that he enjoys most. He had also won the ‘best teacher’ prize, during his schooling days, for taking a class on math – how to make math fun. While in New York he taught low-income kids in Harlem as an investment banker. Today he wants to set a new standard for the way school education is imparted in India: low cost, yet highest quality. And in large numbers.
